Thoroughly Impressed

I love this game for its creative gaming design, and I am critically impressed that this game is free. I love all of the different simulations, but I have a special fondness for the diagnosis scenario, being the simulation I use most. I work as an AEMT, and find CardioEx to be an excellent practice in critical thinking and applying knowledge to real life situations. I find as well that by researching conditions featured in this game, I am more easily able to treat calls that might otherwise seem like nonsense with the gravity they deserve. Best of all, this makes educational tools into games (FOR FREE I MIGHT ADD), so I am able to study in my strongest learning style.

Awesome, just needs one thing

This app is such a great idea & fun learning tool! The only thing it’s missing is something even the NBME neglects: answer explanations! For example, in the treatment tutorial, you can choose to use statin+fish oil, or statin+icosapent ethyl. i tried the fish oil first but it barely responded, so i tried the icosapent & it helped. the problem there for learning? just trial & error. would be nice if at the end of the case it showed you treatment guidelines(per USPSTF?), so you know what your steps should have been. would also help to have scoring reflect whether you chose the right sequence of interventions. random example: if it was a micro case & i went straight to vancomycin when i should have tried a penicillin first, i shouldn’t win just because the bug died either way. i should at least get less points, or something. same with the diagnosis cases. if i do an echo before i ask for past history... i should be somehow punished. LOL great work otherwise, guys.

OH! Unless I missed it, there’s no way to just hit “diagnose” when i know what it is. i shouldn’t have to keep eliminating if i know the condition. could give extra points for knowing without needing to eliminate to 1, and penalties for choosing the wrong diagnosis.

So Cool.

This app is WONDERFUL. Truthfully, I’m just a curious high school student considering a career in medical work, so I may not be the intended audience, but holy cow. The design of the app is modern and sleek. The music is riveting. This is a promising start to this app.

This being said, there are some things that need to be cleaned up in the app.

For example, I don’t think that the directions are clear enough in some of the stages. (Example: In the level where you learn to treat calcification, I killed a couple of patients before I realized what I really needed to do.) This can be especially confusing for those with very limited background knowledge of cardiology and the treatment of different ailments. A way to fix this issue could be an optional “guide” that takes you step by step through each process. (I mean literally step by step. Go for ultimate hand-holding.)

Another thing that could use work is general playability. I have had reoccurring issues with framerate, and have had the game crash mid-session before. The game also sometimes seems to have difficulty registering whether you are trying to rotate the camera or move components within the heart.

Otherwise, I am very pleased with this app. Keep up the good work! ✨
